A man turned himself in to police Sunday morning after he allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend's new love interest, police said.

William Jones, 18, was charged with aggravated burglary, attempted murder and aggravated assault, Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Jerri Weary said in a news release.

Jones' ex-girlfriend, Sharquela Porter, 19, told police that just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning, she heard a knock at her bedroom door at 262 W. 38th Street and recognized Jones' voice, Weary said.

When Porter opened the door, Jones rushed in and shot Porter's new beau, 23-year-old Cordarryle Moten, in the abdomen, Weary said. Porter drove Moten to to a hospital. His condition was unknown Sunday evening.

Porter told police that she and Jones broke up about a week ago and Jones returned his key to Porter's apartment. She believes he made a copy, Weary said.
