The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team lost 3-2 Sunday against the College of Charleston in a Southern Conference game at Finley Stadium. Charleston took an early 1-0 lead, but Becca Smith tied the game for UTC (5-5-1, 0-4). After the Cougars reclaimed the lead on a header by Sarah Schaidle, Danielle Bar answered just before halftime with a goal assisted by Andria Aurand and Andi Argueta. In the second half, both defenses stepped up but Schaidle scored the game winner in the 66th minute to hand UTC the loss.

• SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Visiting Trinity University defeated Sewanee in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference soccer doubleheader Sunday, 3-0 in the women's game and 1-0 in the men's.

• The Tennessee Wesleyan College soccer teams both won Saturday in Appalachian Athletic Conference play at Montreat. The Lady Bulldogs (4-6-1, 2-0-1) pulled off a 3-0 stunner against Montreat (8-3-1, 2-1); the first-place Bulldogs improved to 8-2 overall, 3-0 in the league, with a 2-1 victory.

• King College senior Morgan Shelton from Ooltewah High School had a goal and two assists and freshman Kaitlin Robinson from Signal Mountain scored her first collegiate goal in the Lady Tornado's 4-0 home win Saturday against St. Andrews College. Shelton's goal was her seventh of the season.

Golf

• LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The UTC women's golf team wound up rallied for a sixth place finish out of 16 teams Sunday in the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational tournament at the University Club. The Mocs' final-round score of 305 was the second lowest of the tournament. Michaela Gasplmayr and former Signal Mountain golfer Jordan Britt led the UTC charge Sunday with scores of 74 and 75, respectively. Gasplmayr finished tied for eighth in the tournament with a total score of 233. Marion Duvernay was tied for 21st at 237, and Britt and Mette Kryger tied for 28th at 239. Maria Juliana Loza rounded out the UTC performance at 254.

Tennis

• UTC tennis had a near-perfect day Sunday in the final day of the annual UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic tennis tournament at the Champions Club. Jenna Nurik won the Gold Singles Flight with a tough 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-2 win over Stetson's Sara Lazarevic. Nuric and teammate Kaylene Chadwell won the Gold Doubles Flight with an 8-5 win over Mercer's Jennifer Lada and Lucie Payrat. Senior Charlotte Bossy wrapped up the Lady Mocs good day with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lee's Tarah Garner to win the Silver Singles Flight consolation bracket. In men's action, UTC won three doubles titles. William Disterdick and Roberto Vieira won the Gold Doubles Flight with an 8-5 win over Lee's Richard Gamble and Michael Yokosuk, and Jordan Faith and Orlando Lourenco took an 8-6 win over Jacksonville State's Felipe Wenzel and Tim Roenning in the final of the White Doubles Flight. In the final of the Silver Doubles Flight, Manuel Barroetavena and Stephen Crofford claimed a tough 9-7 win over Kennesaw State's Sebastian Hagn and Giannia Kubin. In the White Singles Flight final, Faith lost 7-6 (4), 6-1 to JSU's Wenzel for the only UTC loss of the day.

Auto Racing

• Without closest pursuer Jeff Smith in the field Friday night, Jason Welshan of Maryville clinched the 2011 Crate Late Model track championship at Boyd's Speedway with his victory from the pole. Kayne Smith and Robby Mason finished second and third in the 16-team race. That was the 26th win of the year for Welshan, most of them at Boyd's and Crossville. Smith was at Phenix City, Ala., for the Alabama State Race weekend.

Volleyball

• BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After losing 3-2 to Oglethorpe and 3-0 to host Birmingham-Southern in SCAC volleyball matches Saturday, Sewanee wound up the weekend with a 14-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-21 loss against Centre on Sunday. Jamie Sue Wilson had 15 kills and 26 digs and Rachel Schuman had 32 assists against Oglethorpe, and Wilson had nine kills and Schuman had 14 assists against BSC. Against Centre, Wilson had 17 kills and Schuman added 38 assists. Kayla Sewell had 28 digs and two blocks, and Nicole Klug added four service aces in the loss.

• Kristen Pickett from Cleveland and Courtney Lawson from Red Bank had 31 and 26 assists and eight and 12 digs in Carson-Newman's 22-25, 25-13, 19-25, 29-27, 15-13 volleyball victory Friday at Lenoir-Rhyne, and Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan had 13 kills and eight digs. Then Saturday at Brevard, with Lawson out of the lineup, Pickett had 32 assists and 10 digs and Harper contributed seven kills in a 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 win at Brevard.

Field Hockey

• SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Elise Landau managed the Tigers' only goal as Sewanee lost 4-1 to visiting Rhodes College in SCAC field hockey Sunday. Sewanee had a season high 22 shots in the loss.
