Paul Page, Chattanooga's director of general services

Paul Page, the city's director of general services, resigned this morning.

City spokesman Richard Beeland said Mayor Ron Littlefield has "accepted this course of action."

Littlefield has appointed Danny Thornton to acting head of the office until a replacement for Page can be found, Beeland said.

Though Page will receive no severance, he will keep his retirement benefits accrued during his time with the city.

Page has been under fire for several weeks after the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission found that he harassed an employee in October 2008 and the city subsequently retaliated against her. A second woman filed a sexual harassment complaint in November 2008. Page was disciplined with five unpaid days off.

He has denied any wrongdoing.

In his administrative position, Page made $98,462 a year, records show.
