Support Eaves to lead Rossville
I would like to thank W.A. "Bill" Eaves for stepping up to run for the position of mayor in Rossville, Ga.
Bill was a classmate of mine at Rossville High School and at the University of Chattanooga.
Bill is a man of his word. He takes an active part in his church. He plays in the local Midsouth concert band. He worked for the city of Rossville as an engineer and head of the firefighting unit.
He ran his own business for many years. His hobbies include music and ham radio communicating with people all over the world.
Bill is married to our classmate Martha Cole. Thank you, Martha, for your support in this matter.
The current mayor has decided not to seek re-election to that office ,and Bill has thrown his hat in the ring to offer his services to his hometown.
Join me in wishing him success in this endeavor.

Editorial promotes willful negligence
It is truly astonishing that a particle has been discovered that moves faster than the speed of light. It is even more astonishing that the Free Press editorial writer ("A 'closed' scientific debate," Oct. 3) considers this a reason to doubt that global warming is taking place, or that it is a serious matter, or that carbon emissions may be the cause.
In summary, the argument is that, because science has long considered the speed of light to be as fast as a moving object can possibly travel, and because a neutrino has been found that may travel faster, then what is known to a high level of certitude about global climate change may safely be ignored.
Mere paraphrase refutes the claim: if a hypothetical exception to classic Newtonian physics may someday be discovered, it will yet be prudent to assume that the law of gravity is in full force and effect. Thus, the limb from which one hangs should not be cut away.
Under the cloak of advocating healthy skepticism, you promote rank and willful ignorance and the abdication of the most elementary tenets of logic.
The moderately intelligent reader is repelled and insulted.

Pass the Jobs Bill for good of nation
I am writing as an American citizen to speak out because our Congress refuses to bring the Jobs Bill to the congressional floor for a vote.
I do not understand this policy of letting Americans suffer because of politics.
I support this bill and feel that our congressional leaders should support it also.
Please pass this bill for the sake of our country.
