Update: The road has been reopened as of 11:50 a.m.
Police are reporting that Thornton Avenue in Dalton, Ga., is closed this morning while crews repair a gas leak.
When a tractor-trailer clipped a telephone line early this morning the telephone pole dislodged and cut a gas line, Dalton Police Department spokesman Bruce Frazier said in an email.
Gas service was shut down immediately, and after the Dalton Fire Department determined gas levels were safe for work crews they were allowed on site, Frazier said.
Workers are at the scene and officers are directing traffic around the closed section of the road between Thornton Avenue and Waugh Street, he said.
The road should be reopened in a few hours, Frazier said.
