Officer-involved shooting in Calhoun, GA

The Calhoun office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations is conducting an investigation into an officer involved shooting in Calhoun, GA.

Subsequent to a motor vehicle chase and motor vehicle accident which occurred on Harris Beamer Road in Calhoun Georgia, the driver of the suspect vehicle exited the vehicle and ran.

A brief foot chase ensued involving the police and the driver of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle then fired a shot at the officer with a shotgun and the officer returned fire.

The driver of the vehicle was injured by the gunfire and was subsequently flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tn. for further treatment for the injuries.

The Calhoun PD officer was not harmed during the incident. Names of the involved persons are not being released at this time.

The office noted that it is normal for the Bureau to conduct investigations whenever local officers have used force to apprehend subjects.
