Bones likely of an adult male were found at Renaissance Park on Monday afternoon, Chattanooga police said.

Children found a skull and took it to their parents, Assistant Chief Tim Carroll said. The parents notified police. When officers arrived, the children led them to the location where they found the skull. Police then found more remains.

Carroll said that based on the clothing, the bones appear to be those of an adult male. The remains may have been there since June, July or August, he added.

The bones do not seem to be a fit with anyone locally in the missing persons database, Carroll said.

The investigation is continuing, he said.
