The Coloring Book

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

ots,

I'm surprised you'd have a problem with the violence inherent in hunting for one's food and to control animal populations, seeing as how you posted a threat of violence against fellow humans simply because of political disagreement.

"Repugnants are the party that doesn't want to work with anyone and I can't wait til the day it becomes acceptable to beat them where they stand with Louisville sluggers."

BTW, I'd love you to try that on me. It won't end the way you think it will, and I'm sure you'd look very funny with nothing but the knob sticking out of your rear end.

Additionally, using a young girl as a political punching bag is simply not funny in a civil society. Maybe you should stick to hanging out with your loser friends in you loser "0%" club, occupying your mom's basement, engaging in a circle jerk of whine against those evil over-achievers who, by comparison, cause you to recognize your own inadequacy.

With the hunter numbers dwindling and the game population overflowing, this scene may be a good poster for the state wildlife group. I get Clay's point, but what kids hear at home and then transfer it to bullying in the classroom is probably a bigger issue.

It looks like The Wart is trying to avoid the news about growing violence from the fleabigots coming out recently. Now the mobs have the official support of the Nazis, Communists and anti-Semites everywhere (in addition to Obama). The coalition of violent racist fools!

And the mindless cartoonist thinks hunters and the American gun culture is a problem? Let me guess that this is because he knows violence begets violence and those hunters are not on his side.

Democrats have sewn their seeds of wealth envy and hate and they will soon have a hard time containing the monster they have created.

This is not going to turn out well.

October 18, 2011 at 7:23 a.m.

Scotty's right on! Onetinsoldier's quote is typical of the angry left.

And don't forget China, BRP! They're backing the "flea party" as well.

This is all so ridiculous. Obama is the ultimate insider. Ask him to make a pledge to not take money from financiers, bankers and multi-millonares. He won't it of course. The left is desperate, they'd love to use baseball bats on anyone who doesn't agree with them, like Onetinsoldiers. He needs meds, not Scotty!

This cartoon is juvenile, and he is avoiding real news.

I guess you like name calling, Austrian. And what's real news, dummkopf, CNN, MSNBC, NPR or Al Sharpton's tv show? I'ver quoted the bible on here

Onetinsoldier,

What if someone on here had advocated beating blacks, hispanics, or communists with a baseball bat? For some reason a leftist feels it's ok to say that on here. Double standard! It's similar to the left and Democrats being vocal about assassinating former President Bush. Making movies and writing books about it.

"Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things." Genesis 9:3

"2One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand." Romans 14:2-4

Peter relates a vision from God:

"11.He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12.It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13.Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” Acts 10: 11-13

"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Romans 14:17

Good enough for me.

And depicting a fawn in the drawing is a little on the dishonest side. It paints an evil picture upon the integrity of the honorable hunters discretion.

You are correct BRP, this may not turn out well. When corporate greed and financial manipulation are well exposed there certainly could be some bad consequences. Those spooky unions could come back into fashion. People may actually expect their wages to increase. They may even want to have a pension to follow their decades of work and devotion. Yes, a very bleak future for the... few who drink the blood of the many.

Patriot1, you're right that "dad"should be instructing son in aiming properly, but he should also be pointing out the difference between a fawn,a doe,and a buck!

Personally,I believe that occasionally culling the deer population,(especially in suburban areas)is beneficial to both 2 and 4legged critters.

Culling, targets, and crosshairs aside, I suspect by the time this little guy grows up “hunting” in this region will be a thing of the past. In all probability, there will not be any wildlife to hunt because the reckless environmental policies that our self-serving politicians established to accomodate greedy coal companies can only lead to the deadly poisoning of wildlife water sources and destruction of their natural habitats.

Hahahaha! "official support of the nazis" That's funny BRP. Because it's soooo absurb. The only nazis you see nowadays are skinheads. And they can't stay out of prison.

The only violence I've seen during the Occupy Wall Street(in the U.S.) movement has been the police starting it during arrests and one incedent involving a self styled conservative blogger that started a rucus at the Air and Space Museum.

You should know BRP, that many fringe groups try to attach themselves to larger movements to try to get noticed.

BTW, my view on hunting is wildlife management, done properly, is fine. My mom makes a great BBQ venison when I bring her some leftovers.

This is the plight of todays American family, being reduced to hunters and gathers. These poor people can no longer enjoy a literary classic for it's artistic merits, but only as a field manual for basic sustainence. Let's imagine you are in a tree stand in the woods, sitting for hours and two deer walk into your view and within shooting distance.

One male deer is healthy with a ten point rack on it's head.

The other is an unhealthy doe, dying from "starvation" or that may be sick.

Which one do you shoot to kill for its meat and the trophy that you have planned to put on your living room wall?

Yeah, that argument falls apart every time when faced with the reality of the rocks rolling around in the brain of the average hunter.

Just another fringe group trying to grab onto the coattails of something that's way larger and taken much more serious than themselves.
