Despite a match-high 14 kills by Jennifer Kuroski, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team lost 25-19, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22 Tuesday night at Mercer.

Christina Teter added 11 kills and Heather Parman had seven plus 12 digs for UTC (5-18), while Bridget Camacho registered 37 assists and Paula Passmore had 31 digs. Carolina Carlton and Anna Coursey had 13 and 12 kills for Mercer (8-15), while Monica Sanchez and Madeline Dolny had 30 and 20 assists and Charlotte Harris and Jamie Duffy had 24 and 23 digs.

* At Rome, Ga., Lee University extended its winning streak to 16 with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 SSAC victory at Shorter. Christa Hutchison, Irene Ojukwu and Marija Zelenovic had 11 kills apiece and Gretchen Higdon and Kelsey Leffew had 24 and 17 assists for Lee (22-2), and Arlene Ferreira had 16 digs with eight kills and Sarah Smith made 14 digs.

Zelenovic was named Tuesday the SSAC player of the week after totaling 57 kills, 22 digs and 14 blocks in five wins for the Lady Flames, ranked fourth in the NAIA. She was particularly strong in wins over two high-ranked teams, with 16 kills, five aces and eight digs against Taylor and 15 kills and four blocks against then-No. 5 Embry-Riddle.

* At Holly Springs, Miss., Sewanee beat Rust 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 and defeated Lane 25-13, 25-10, 25-9 and at 6-17 has tripled last year's win total.

Kayla Sewell had 14 kills and five blocks in the first match and eight kills on .571 hitting plus five aces and 14 digs against Lane, when Jamie Sue Wilson had 13 kills, Rachel Schuman made 17 assists and Erin Brahm also served five aces. Schuman had 31 assists and Brahm had 18 digs against Rust.

Lee's Achten honored

Reigning NAIA national soccer player of the year Jamie Achten of Lee University was the SSAC women's offensive player of the week after she totaled four goals and three assists in two wins for the No. 2-ranked Lady Flames wins last week. She now is third all-time in NAIA career assists, nine from the national record.

She had a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 4-0 home win over Truett-McConnell. Laura Thacker, Ode Fulutudilu and Charlotte Canlett scored the first three goals for the second-ranked Lady Flames. Leah Fortune also had two assists, and Kim Conrad, Fulutudilu and Ashley Aragona had assists as Lee (12-2, 9-0) outshot the Lady Bears 30-2.

Lee also won the men's game, 2-1 in overtime, as Luke Cuthbert netted a tying 40-yard looper in the 21st minute and Kareem Gordon scored from a Theodore Dweh assist 13:48 into extra time. The Flames (9-6, 4-5) had a 26-8 edge in shots and 9-1 superiority in corner kicks.

* Union, Ky., 2, Tennessee Wesleyan 1: At Barbourville, Ky., the 24th-ranked visitors fell to 5-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference , 12-3 overall, while Union rose to 8-6-2, 2-3-1.

* Tennessee Wesleyan (w) 5, Union 1: The TWC women improved to 8-7-1, 4-1-1 in the AAC, while dropping the other Lady Bulldogs to 8-5, 3-3.

* Covenant (w) 1, Salem 1: At Winston-Salem, N.C., Covenant's Margaret Cross scored from a Teagan Wood cross in the 84th minute of the Great South game, less than a minute after the hosts (7-4-2, 2-2-1) got on the board, and no one could score in overtime. Hannah Bales had eight saves for the Lady Scots (6-6-2, 4-1-1).
