The only emotion that could trump Chattanooga Christian junior Allie Sullivan's fear Thursday night was the elation and excitement that came with it.

Sullivan scored on a free kick in the 79th minute, giving the second-ranked Lady Chargers a 1-0 victory over second-ranked Notre Dame in the District 7-A/AA championship game.

Sullivan's kick bent right inside the left side post and past keeper Grace Courter.

"I was going for the goal," Sullivan admitted. "I wasn't sure that it would go in, but if I missed I hoped my teammates would be there to finish it."

Sullivan admitted being "scared" when her teammates mobbed her after the go-ahead goal but said she was "ready to celebrate with my teammates."

CCS (15-3-2) controlled possession for large amounts of the first half but fired off only three shots. Both teams had dangerous opportunities on goal in the second half - none more than a shot attempt by Lacey Mahoney that Ellie Henry made a nonkeeper save on.

"We talked at halftime about getting some shots on goal," CCS coach Cal Sneller said. "I thought that Anna Hoffman gave us our most dangerous opportunities with her crosses.

"I thought all the girls did well tonight."

Sullivan's goal was set up when Natalie Thedford was fouled attacking the goal.

"It's heartbreaking when a team scores in the last minute," said Notre Dame coach Jim Schermerhorn, whose team dropped to 5-10-3. "I thought we played well; it was just a good shot by the girl."

• In District 5-AAA, Soddy-Daisy ripped off six first-half goals and cruised to the district title with a surprising 8-0 victory over Cleveland. The fifth-ranked Lady Trojans (15-2-2) got three goals apiece from Hannah Wyatt and Summer Lanter, while Miranda Smith and Haley Wyatt each added one.
