Former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen and former Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas will be at Sewanee: The University of the South at 4:30 p.m. CDT Tuesday to present "American Politics: The View from the Center" in Guerry Auditorium on the Sewanee campus.

During their overlapping terms as governors, Bredesen, a Democrat, and Douglas, a Republican, each focused on strengthening his state's economy and fiscal position, on health reforms, and on preserving the environment, according to a news release.

They also served together in the National Governors Association and worked together on committees.

The former governors - moderate members of their respective parties - will discuss the state of American politics from a moderate's perspective.

The event is open to the public. For more information, visit www.sewanee.edu.
