Rape, molestation charges added in Dalton arrest after Amber Alert

A man arrested Friday in Dalton, Ga., on charges of kidnapping his stepdaughter from Overton County, Tenn., had four more charges added later that day.

After Dalton police arrested Wayne Harness, 37, who was the subject of an Amber Alert on Friday, they initially charged him with being a fugitive.

Later, detectives added two counts each of aggravated child molestation and statutory rape, according to Dalton Police spokesman Bruce Frazier.

“We’re going to let him face the charges in Tennessee first,” Frazier said, “and then we’ll bring him back, based on what the district attorney decides.”

Current plans, Frazier said, are for Harness to be extradited to Tennessee on Monday.

This outcome doesn't really surprise anyone, does it? Little underage Suzie had the hots for Mommy's man...and the fool falls for it.

The are two kinds of fools -- ordinary ones and damned ones. This guy is one of the latter.

There used to be a federal law about transporting a minor across a state line for immoral purposes. [The Sullivan law??] Whatever happened to it?

Since it was statutory rape, not rape per se, she evidently traveled with him willingly so why the kidnapping charge? Might be tough to convict...

That is the same defense that Greg Austin used when he raped children. He only gave them what they wanted.

becuz, roolando, even if the little susies get the hots for the waynes, officer redwines and greg austins of the adult world, their being adults 'n all, they are suppose to have the maturity and experience to resist and explain to the hot susies they are still children and shouldn't be engaging in sexual activty with adults. It's basic sex ed 101 roolando

I didn't condone the action...nor did I defend Harness' action. He is, after all, a damned fool for acting against a minor and will pay the piper.

The question was, How does kidnap apply? Short doesn't.

Prosecution is just throwing in the kitchen sink for possible plea bargaining leverage.

You folks want to get out the lynching rope, go for it.

It's not about what's right. It about the law. Two entirely different things.

If this young girl is implicit some way in what happened, you can be 99% sure that it's because she was abused before. I've seen this happen all my life, but didn't understand the childhood abuse part of it until I was married to a victim. If the DA isn't a complete idiot, they'll be looking for an adult to charge in the earlier abuse.

Children - especially a 12 YEAR OLD child is a VICTIM! Regardless of how they dress or act - they are still a RAPE VICTIM! At 12 or 13 or 14 or 15 or even 16 and 17 - they are a child without the brain maturity to understand their actions and possible lifelong consequences from their actions!
Adults are the ones that should know better than to either entice, bribe, bargain for, threaten, or even give in to a child's desire to be loved! And don't believe them when they tell you they are 18! It takes a brain to "believe" they are of age to consent, but I guess you can tell what most of these pervents think with and it is not their brain in their noggins! You will get jail time whether she told you she was 18 or not!
Just imagine if it were your daughter or grand-daughter! Just remember - they are VICTIMS in this whole mess!
STOP pedophiles NOW! Or at least report them and let them get the chance to be the victim in jail!
