East Ridge City Council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance regulating the sale of fireworks in the city tonight.

The ordinance outlines zoning, building and safety standards that all retailers must abide by.

Before the vote, Mayor Brent Lambert took several moments to explain that the ordinance did not legalize the sale of fireworks, which is a state decision.

Tennessee State Legislature voted to allow fireworks retailers in East Ridge in May.
