Man died of wound to the head in Walker Street shooting

A man killed in an onslaught of gunfire that wounded four others Sunday night died from a single gunshot wound to the head, according to a medical examiner's report.

VanDaryl Rivers, 22, was shot once in the right temple, according to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office.

Rivers was one of several people gathered near the 1900 block of Walker Street around 10 p.m. when witnesses said a man clad in all black opened fire on the group with an assault rifle.

Among those shot were 19-year-old JerMichael Smith, who was shot in the neck, and 25-year-old Daniel Smiley, who was shot in the wrist. A 17-year-old and 2-year-old who were both grazed by bullets.

Chattanooga Police had released no suspect information or motive as of Thursday.
