What do we do if quake strikes?

We keep seeing news about those poor people harmed in the earthquakes in Turkey.

I'd like to know what we should do if we had an earthquake here? We are close enough to the New Madrid fault (in West Tennessee) that we could suffer almost as much as those in Turkey. What should we do? I have no idea other than pray.

Players' demands nothing but greed

It's hard to understand why these multi-millionaire basketball players want more millions. The so-called NBA "walkouts" with their disagreements with team owners is nothing but greed. They are overpaid already! They should realize that when it's time to meet their Maker, what good will all those accumulated millions they have earned do? I guess they think "If I can't take it with me, then I won't go!" That's when they will be brought down to the level of the poor because the poor have nothing to worry about leaving anything behind.

The billionaires and millionaires could do so much to help wipe out the increasing number of people living at the poverty level. They could also help eliminate hunger that exists all over the world.

I wish they would learn from the very generous Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey, who have done so much for the underprivileged and replace greed with generosity.

There shouldn't be any such thing as hunger on our planet Earth because the rich and very rich could solve this very serious problem. There also should not be homeless children, adults and veterans who have fought for our freedom.

There's always a need for blood

Blood is needed today, tomorrow, the next day and so on.

On Oct. 20 as I drove by Blood Assurance on East Fourth Street, I noticed the electronic sign asking particularly for donations of two specific blood types. There can be no more compelling plea than that.

I hope and pray that my own deferment as an apheresis donor will end in January so my platelets and plasma can go to children and adults in need.

Do Democrats have to cheat to win?

I read your lopsided editorial ("Real vote tampering ahead," Oct. 25 ). You stated this new law requiring photo IDs before you could vote strongly favors the Republican Party. It is noted that both Republicans as well as Democrats have to have these photo IDs.

With this in mind, are you saying that Democrats have to cheat to win?

By the way, to get a gun-carry permit you have to have a photo ID as well as a background check.
