THINGS I WISH MY KIDS WOULD ASK ME

Editor's NOTE: Barry Courter has a 22-year-old son who recently graduated from college and a 17-year-old daughter who is a senior in high school.

Q: Dad, I'll be visiting colleges in the coming months. What am I looking for?

A: Several things. Does the school offer what you want to study? Do you feel comfortable on the campus, with the students and in the part of the country where it is located? Some people want a big city, some want rural, and some want beaches and sunshine. Do you want a big student body or a smaller one? Like everything, there will probably be tradeoffs. Also find out how important Greek life is on campus. Your social life can depend on whether you are in or out.
