High school football player of the week honor roll

• Baylor: A couple of veterans, receiver Deosha McColley and runner George Porter, made their presence felt but it was Connor Davidson with the big statistical night for the Red Raiders with 153 yards on 17 carries (9.2 ypc) as the team moved to 3-0 and 1-0 in Division II-East/Middle.

• Bledsoe County: Holden Boynton scored both of the Warriors' TDs but their unbeaten streak ended at two with a 48-13 loss to Signal Mountain.

• Boyd-Buchanan: Chase Reed got his first 100-yard rushing effort of the season but sophomore quarterback Jim Cardwell ran for two TDs and passed for another, finishing with 231 yards of total offense as the Bucs moved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in District 5-A with a 35-0 victory over Silverdale Baptist.

• Bradley Central: Quarterback Bryce Copeland's big night included 353 yards of offense and five touchdowns -- three in a 198-yard passing effort and two more in a 155-yard rushing show -- as the Bears (2-1) manhandled Soddy-Daisy 52-14.

• Brainerd: Maleek Rooks ran for one TD, caught two TD passes, recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass as the Panthers (2-1, 1-0) bested Tyner 33-8. Rooks finished with 84 receiving yards and 120 rushing yards.

• N Central: Linebacker Niko Timoshchuk had 13 tackles but the Pounders lost their 7-AA opener to East Hamilton, 25-6.

• Chattanooga Christian: Jay Sims scored twice and rushed 27 times for 142 yards as the Chargers upended previously unbeaten Notre Dame 30-28 in the clubs' 7-AA opener.

• Cleveland: D.J. Jones caught three passes for 53 yards and a TD but the Blue Raiders fell to 3-0 and -01 in 5-AAA after a 23-14 loss to unbeaten Ooltewah.

• Dade County: David Page ran for a 50-yard score but Dade suffered its first loss of the year, 28-7 to Adairsville.

• East Hamilton: Logan Jackson rushed for 159 yards on 21 carries and scored a victory-icing TD but also had an 85-yard kickoff return in the Hurricanes' first home game and a 25-6 victory over Central.

• East Ridge: Emmanual Harris had six catches for 105 yards but the Pioneers lost their second straight, 31-14 to Red Bank in their 6-AA opener.

• Grace Academy: Will Slack rushed for 155 yards but the Golden Eagles (1-2) fell 34-26 to Sweetwater.

• Grundy County: Johnny Cook scored the Yellowjackets' only TD and rushed for 83 yards against a stiff Sequatchie defense in a 17-7 loss.

• Heritage: Ethan Thompson picked up 106 yards and scored twice as the Generals moved to 2-0 for the second time in as many years with a 22-15 win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

• Hixson: Player of the week last week, runner Clarencio Holmes scored a pair and rushed 19 times for 115 yards as the Wildcats jumped to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in District 6-AA with a 42-12 victory over Howard.

• LaFayette: Heath Giddy and Trea Covington combined for 36 tackles, Giddy getting 20 as the Ramblers held on for a 35-21 victory at Trion.

• Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe: Bubba Cruz rushed for 132 yards but the Warriors (0-2) lost a heart-breaker to Heritage, 23-15.

• McCallie: the Blue Tornado played defending champion Ensworth to a scoreless first half but fell 28-10. Daniel McClure led McCallie (1-1, 0-1) with 152 yards on 23 carries.

• McMinn Central: Denzel Boyd rushed for 102 yards and scored one of the Chargers' two TDs in a 46-14 loss to Polk County. The Chargers are 0-3 overall and 0-1 in District 5-AA.

• McMinn County: Dre Sanders rushed for 125 yards and the Cherokees' first score but Dylan Plaster averaged 10 yards per carry on seven totes and scored four TDs as McMinn County went on the road and bested Rhea County 34-14.

• Meigs County: Burly lineman Carter Scott had seven tackles, blocked a punt, added a tackle for loss and recovered a fumble as the Tigers improved to 2-1 (1-0 in 5-AA) with a 26-6 win over Sequoyah.

• North Jackson: Kitt Grider passed for three TDs and ran for another, picking up 308 passing yards on a 14-18-3 night, and Kahne Cooper caught seven passes for 202 yards and three scores as the Chiefs (2-0) blew past Douglas 48-7.

• Northwest Whitfield: Cliff Phillips caught just two passes but both went for scores as Northwest bested Creekview 31-21. Phillips also had a rushing TD as his team evened its record at 1-1.

• Notre Dame: Shaqualm McCoy picked up 145 yards (15 carries) but the Irish suffered their first loss of the year and their District 7-AA opener, 30-28 to Chattanooga Christian.

• Ooltewah: Stuart Doss returned an interception 10 yards to put Ooltewah (3-0, 1-0) ahead in the second quarter and the Owls' defense made it stand up en route to a 23-14 victory over Cleveland (0-3, 0-1).

• Polk County: Derrick Saxe scored just one TD (plus a 2-point conversion) but rushed for 106 first-half yards (11 carries) as the Wildcats posted their first win of the year, 46-14 over District 5-AA rival McMinn Central.

• Red Bank: Niquia McDuffie rushed for 37 yards and despite completing just 5 of 15 passes, threw for 124 yards as the Lions moved to 2-0 with a 31-14 win over East Ridge. It was the District 6-AA opener for each.

• Rhea County: Lineman Josh York turned in a 16-tackle showing but the Golden Eagles fell to McMinn County 34-14.

• Ridgeland: Torri Potter rushed for 76 yards including 46 on a touchdown run but the Panthers fell to 1-1 after a 28-7 loss to Allatoona.

• Ringgold: Mark Fairbanks rushed for 146 yards and two TDs Shaun Anderson scored three times and rushed for 117 yards as the Tigers smacked Murphy, N.C., 41-21.

• Sequatchie County: With just 26 seconds left, Shane Yother scored to assure the Indians of their third win of the year and their first 7-AA victory with a 17-7 decision over Grundy County.

• Signal Mountain: Reese Phillips completed 13 of 16 passes with one interception for 318 yards to go with a pair of passing TDs and a short rushing score as the Eagles bested Bledsoe County 48-13.

• Silverdale Baptist: Spencer Mossburg was the Seahawks leading rusher and passer in a 35-0 district 5-A loss to Boyd-Buchanan.

• Soddy-Daisy: Cedric Edwards managed his first 100-yard game of the season, picking up 152 yards on 26 carries but the Trojans (0-3) lost to Bradley Central 52-14.

• South Pittsburg: Jajuan Lankford actually played in the second half but had 180 yards on just eight carries and scored on three of those in the Pirates' 52-7 win over previously unbeaten Lookout Valley.

• Trion: Corey Bethune passed for 142 yards and a TD and ran for two more scores but the team lost to LaFayette 35-21.

• Tyner: Chandler Patrick recorded four lost-yardage hits against Brainerd but the Rams fell 33-8 to Brainerd and dropped to 0-2 (0-1 in 6-AA).
