The Volunteer Energy Cooperative and North Georgia EMC reported today that customers continue to be without power in the wake of heavy rains and storms that moved through the Chattanooga area Monday.

Volunteer Energy said about 970 of its customers were still without power, effective 9 a.m. today.

It said its crews continue on the job, making repairs as they work to restore electricity to all customers.

North Georgia EMC said 1,200 of its customers in Catoosa, Walker and Whitfield counties are still without power.

It said crews worked through the night to restore power. "Progress is slow due to the large number of broken poles scattered through the area, with each pole serving only small pockets of customers," according to a company release.

North Georgia EMC said work will continue to all customers have their power back.
