City voters in Walker County, Ga., will have plenty of choices on their ballots this fall.
Out of 13 offices up for election in Chickamauga, Rossville, LaFayette and Lookout Mountain, 11 will be contested.
The biggest ballot will be in LaFayette, where candidates will run four- and five-wide for two council seats.
“I’ve never seen that,” said Wayne Swanson, an incumbent LaFayette councilman who is one of the few to run unopposed. “This is very unusual. I think it’s good for our city.”
Jerry Rogers, Stacey Suttle, Judy Meeks and Barry Hollis will compete for votes in LaFayette’s Ward 3. In Ward 4, voters will decide among Melvin Bridges, Christopher Scott Davis, Kevin Lee Robinson, Joe Daniel BeBoard and Donnie R. McGaha.
In Chickamauga, Mayor Ray Crowder will be unopposed, but incumbent council members Daymon Garret and Robert Robertson will face newcomer Al Graham. The highest two vote-getters will take the seats.
For the Chickamauga school board, voters will decide between David Askew, Grant Parrish, Jim Powell and Kyle Veazey for two seats.
Rossville voters will see some familiar names, but in different places. Councilman Teddy Harris and Bill Eaves will go head to head in the mayor’s race. Mayor Johnny Baker will run for city council along with Cindy Bradshaw, Hal Gray, Jesse Harrell and Charles Wilson. The top two vote-getters will take office.
In Lookout Mountain, Ga., travel planner James Campbell, gemologist Taylor Watson and Unum executive William Sabourin will compete for two seats on the council. City leaders also have asked that a referendum on Sunday alcohol sales be included on the ballot for mountain voters.
Election day is Nov. 8.
