A McMinn County woman was shot in the leg during an apparent domestic dispute at a home near Niota, Tenn.

Sheriff Joe Guy reported that Shela Plumb, 37, of Hammerhill Road in Athens, Tenn., was at the home of David Dotson, 104 County Road 356, where the two had argued over a relationship between Plumb's daughter and stepson.

Mr. Dotson produced a semiautomatic rifle and instructed Plumb and another man to leave.

"It appears that at some point, Ms. Plumb either grabbed the rifle or in some way pushed the rifle that Mr. Dotson was holding, and the rifle went off," Guy said. "A .223 rifle round struck Ms. Plumb in the right thigh."

Plumb was treated at the scene by the McMinn County Rescue Squad and flown to the University of Tennessee hospital in Knoxville, Guy said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing, the sheriff said.
