Mocs lead JSU entering fourth

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga leads Jacksonville State 31-17 after three quarter of the Mocs' season opener at Finley Stadium.

UTC owned a 23-17 lead at halftime and expanded it by a touchdown in the third quarter.

Chris Awuah scored from a yard out and quarterback B.J. Coleman snuck in for the two-point conversion.

Coleman has completed 23 of 30 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

HALFTIME

UTC began the second quarter trailing 14-7.

The Mocs tied it at 14-all with a 24-yard pass from B.J. Coleman to Marlon Anthony.

Nick Pollard added a 25-yard field goal for UTC.

JSU re-tied the game at 17-all with a 28-yard field goal.

Mocs receiver Joel Bradford scored on a 47-yard pass from Coleman. JSU defensive back A.J. Davis bobbled the pass and Bradford stole it from him near the goal line.

Pollard missed a 41-yard field goal wide right with 10 seconds to go before halftime.

FIRST QUARTER

The Mocs struck first when Chris Auwah tiptoed the sideline for a 15-yard touchdown run.

UTC and JSU traded punts. But JSU easily diced the Mocs to even the score. Former Georgia running back Washaun Ealey scored from four yards out.

JSU took the lead on an 8-yard touchdown run by Calvin Middleton in the final minute of the quarter.
