American Girl has introduced a pair of dolls, two historical characters, Cecile Rey and Marie-Grace Gardner, in a six-book series set in 1850s New Orleans. The new characters, one black and one white, show the power of friendship and community as they reach across the boundaries of race and class to help their families, friends and city during a time of great need. Cecile and Marie-Grace are available in all American Girl stores and online at Each doll comes with a book for $100. The Best Friends Collection comes with both dolls and an outfit, books and accessories for each doll for $234.
