Bombing a painful reminder from Afghanistan

Most of us cannot visualize exactly where Afghanistan is or exactly who our enemies there are -- much less exactly what we need to do to achieve peace.

But 77 more American soldiers were wounded -- and five more Afghans were killed -- on Sunday in a terrorist bombing in Afghanistan as we were remembering the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on our country 10 years earlier. We have been involved in the war in Afghanistan since soon after the attacks, after discovering that that country was harboring al-Qaida elements responsible for 9/11.

So far, more than 1,700 Americans have been killed and thousands more have been wounded in Afghanistan.

Almost 100,000 American troops are still "out there," fighting the Afghanistan war and facing more casualties, with no sign of any clear resolution.

We must never forget them!
