Delvin Dewayne Williams, 31, faces charges after he dragged a police officer behind his car while the officer was attempting to arrest him for driving under the influence.

A Dalton, Ga., man who was wanted in connection with dragging an officer behind his car while the officer was attempting to arrest him has been taken into custody.

Delvin Dewayne Williams, 31, was found at a friend's house around 3 a.m. today and was arrested, Dalton Police Department spokesman Bruce Frazier said.

Williams faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to yield when entering a roadway, simple battery against a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer and felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, Frazier said in a news release.

On Saturday, Officer Steven Collins pulled Williams' car over after he saw him nearly collide with a motorist on Chattanooga Road, a release stated. After Collins performed several sobriety tests on Williams, he tried to arrest the man.

But Williams broke free and ran to his car, and as he drove off Collins clung to the driver's-side door, the release states. When Williams accelerated Collins was dragged and thrown from the car, authorities said.
