Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland

Former Ohio governor Ted Strickland will join Tennessee Democrats for their Jackson Day fundraising dinner on Oct. 1.

State Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester said Strickland, who lost his 2010 re-election bid to Republican John Kasich, will join former Tennessean publisher John Seigenthaler at the event, which includes a tribute to former Tennessee Gov. Ned McWherter, who died earlier this year.

According to a Democratic Party news release, Strickland has been at the forefront of a grassroots fight to defeat Ohio's Senate Bill 5, a measure Democrats say is similar to GOP "attacks on Tennessee teachers." It would sharply limit collective bargaining powers of school teachers, police officers and firefighters.

The Jackson Day event will be held at the Bicentennial Mall in Nashville. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
