Maggie Scott from nearby Charleston, Tenn., is the defending champion as the 33rd annual Tennessee Women's Senior Amateur Championship starts Monday at Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club. The 54-hole stroke-play event will run through Wednesday, and eight-time champion Scott leads the 75-player field. Starting in 2001, she has won every year except 2004 and 2009, and she set a 54-hole scoring record with her 225 last year at Lebanon's Five Oaks Golf & Country Club. Chattanooga's Georgia McCravey was the 2009 winner and is entered again, as are 2010 runners-up Linda Mullins of Cleveland and Jean Roise of Crossville. Mullins set and then matched the tournament single-round record with her two 72s after an opening 83 last year. Also in the tournament are Signal Mountain members Debbie Durham, Anna Cunningham, Rosalie Basten and Deedee Raulston.

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team will play today through Tuesday in the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Spirit Hollow Golf Club in Burlington, Iowa. The tournament also includes Arkansas, Ball State, California, Cal-Irvine, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, defending champion Iowa, New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Southeastern Louisiana, Tulsa and Xavier. In the current coaches' poll, Oklahoma State is ranked second, Georgia Tech fourth, Arkansas 10th, Iowa 19th and Cal 24th. Heralded freshman Liam Johnston from Scotland will be in the Mocs' lineup for the first time, joining senior captain Stephan Jaeger, junior Steven Fox and sophomores Benni Weilguni and Chris Robb.

• FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Led by senior Hunter Green from Rhea County with a second-round 68, the Middle Tennessee State men's golf team goes into the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship today at the Legends Club South Course tied with Mississippi for second place at 565, one shot behind Oklahoma. Georgia Southern is fourth in the 14-team field at 567. Green is fourth individually at 138, one stroke behind a trio of leaders, and Brett Patterson from McMinnville has the Blue Raiders' fourth best score, tied for 15th at 143.

• WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Ringgold's Scott Melton shot a 1-under-par 71 in the first round of the Georgia Public Links tournament Saturday at Towne Lake Hills Golf Club and is tied for sixth place, two shots behind four leaders who include defending champion William Mitchell of Roswell. LaFayette's Matthew Baker is tied for 15th at 76, and Calhoun's Brent Sizemore is in a group sharing 26th place at 78. Calhoun's Virgil Waters is tied for sixth at 86 in Flight 2.

• Children's Hospital Classic tournament director Mickey McCamish will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. McCamish will talk about the Nationwide Tour event running Oct. 3-9 at Black Creek Club.

Auto Racing

• Jake Knowles won the Steel Head Late Model race Friday night at Boyd's Speedway, with points leader Jamie Perry second and Brad Hall, Mike Tinker and Paul Tims completing the top five. Jeff Smith was first and Jason Welshan second in their ongoing fierce battle for the Crate Late Model points title, and Craig Burrows was third. Steve Tate, Jimbo Breland and Richard Hickman won in A-Hobby, B-Hobby and Front Runner, respectively, with Blake Armitage, Dallas Brooks and Thomas Gilbert the runners-up. Brooks and Gilbert are their classes' season points leaders at the track.

Field Hockey

• LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite two goals by junior midfielder Cameron Herndon, Sewanee lost 6-3 at Bellarmine in NCAA Division III field hockey Saturday. The visiting Tigers (2-2) scored first on Karen Dawson's goal from a Tilden Davis pass, but the speedy Knights (4-2) took a 3-1 lead into halftime and Rachel Walz made it 4-1 with her second goal of the game early in the second half. Herndon's first score followed a rebound of a Dawson shot, and Anna Morrow had 13 saves in defeat.

Volleyball

• NEWBERRY, S.C. - Chattanooga-area players Courtney Lawson (Red Bank) and Kristen Pickett (Cleveland) had 14 and 12 assists and Boyd-Buchanan's Rachel Harper made 10 digs as the Carson-Newman College volleyball team won 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 Saturday against Newberry.
