Sen. Andy Berke selected as one of six leaders to join NewDEAL

Nashville Bureau

NASHVILLE - State Sen. Andy Berke, D-Chattanooga, has been selected as one of six rising leaders from across the U.S. to join NewDEAL, a new national network that seeks to promote ideas from "pro-growth progressives."

Berke was recognized for his efforts to help more Tennesseans start up their first businesses with the Tennessee New Entrepreneur Tax Credit, said the group's honorary chairmen, Maryland Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley and U.S. Senator Mark Begich, D-Alaska.

O'Malley said in a news release that he and Begich launched the group "because we believe we need to look for fresh ideas not just from the top down in Washington, but also from the bottom up, where innovative leaders like Andy Berke are developing and testing their ideas out on the ground."

Berke said he was "proud to be recognized by the NewDEAL for my work to help new small businesses grow lasting jobs here in Tennessee."
