The Georgia softball regular season wraps up this week and several northwest Georgia teams have a lot on the line. Two races in particular could change at the top before region tournaments begin.

Region 7-AAA's top seed is Allatoona's to lose. The 17-7, 9-1 Lady Bucs play at winless Murray County today and could wrap up the regular-season title with a win. Heritage (20-7, 8-2), LaFayette (15-11, 7-2) and Ringgold (14-9, 6-2) each has a shot at the No. 2 seed, and since each has beaten the other, a tiebreaker would be needed if they all win out.

In that scenario, the first tiebreaker is how the tied teams fared against the top seed, and since Heritage defeated Allatoona, the Generals would receive the No. 2 seed. LaFayette then, by virtue of a win over Ringgold, would be seeded third at the tournament at Heritage Point in Dalton starting Saturday.

"From what I understand, if we all win out, Heritage would get the No. 2 seed," Heritage coach Steve Chattin said. "After that it goes to run differential between the three teams. Either way it's going to be a strong region tournament."

In 7-AA, the B subregion is up for grabs, with Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, North Murray and Dade County each entering the week with one loss. The tournament begins Saturday at Hamilton Crossing in Adairsville.

Northwest Whitfield (20-5, 7-0) has clinched the top seed from the Region 7-AAAA's A subregion. The Region 6-A tournament began Monday at Alto Park in Rome, with defending state champion Gordon Lee the heavy favorite.
