Actually, I can empathize with your Moccasin Bend problem..we had a similar problem where I live quite a while back..and even after it was rectified it haunted local officials for quite some time.

I've often wondered why they pushed so hard for a national park at Moccasin Bend. Who is going to travel here just to smell a sewage treatment plant?

Yep, we can't blame the olfactory nightmare on that 'old factory right there' anymore, they're all gone. We need a Sewage Czar to regulate the amount of Jamaican souse coming out of the Big Ridge area. Maybe we could hire a crop duster to lay down some Febreeze on a weekly basis during tourist season.

Hey, we need name suggestions for the new day at Riverbend! How about "The Elizabeth Smith Memorial Bleus Festival?" We could have a cheese dish contest, with the winner being awarded a Jazzy! We all know that the essence of the blues is tight security and standing in lines with an enormous cache of tokens. Since we can't have the strut, this might be a hip replacement (ouch).

The smell at mocassin bend is a result of $hit running downhill from lookout and signal. Typical for politics and feces alike.

actualy sign.mtn. has their own tratment plant on suck creek road at shoal creek!don't know about lookout,they prob.don't need one since theirs don't stink anyhow!!

I suggest you go to the Bend on a hot summer day, as you pass the sewage plant, you want have to sniff, the nasty smell will hit you in the nose and eyes. The only reason something might get done is that this nasty if the wind is right, will hit the all sooo special Lookout MT. people who think that their sh.. don't stink anyway

I was in north Chattanooga a week ago. It smelled like a backed up toilet. Guess all the property taxes they pay for those overpriced homes aren't going to solve that stinky problem.

I understand the storm water and sewage drain piping are combined so naturally when there is a heavy rain both run over into and around the street. Separating them is expensive and may mean no Arts & Crafts Education and those wonderful sculptures around town. It may mean the city may have to sell some of the businesses they own and subsidize that compete with privately owned tax paying businesses. It may even require the mayor and council give up some of their pet vote pandering projects. We had a substantial storm water run off and sewer fee/tax increase this past year, why? OK, if you don't want to give anything up, if you think all current city spending is essential just hold your breath, ignore the odor and keep your immune system in good shape.

Why not ask the federal governments to print or borrow the city enough money to separate the sewage and storm water run off systems. The federal government loves getting their control hooks in state and local governments with grants, subsidies etc. Failure to deliver on the cities promises to get a grant for storm water run off resulted in the large fee increase last year, no reason to not go for more.

That was 3 years ago.....I guess it was cheaper to pay-off the powers that be than to spend "hundreds of millions of dollars" to fix the problem.

Speaking of which, I wonder if the city ever got around to actually purchasing those additional emergency generators for the treatment plant? Surely, so. I recall reading something that said the money had been approved about a year ago.

Waste Water has to be processed. Chattanooga would certainly smell even worse if excrament was left unattended. I've not seen very many people offering a solution.

I thought your questions were rhetorical, not in need or wanting a reply. To that point, Clay should use whatever artistic devices he chooses if he thinks they will get his message across.

As for distorted facts.... By not offering up a balanced alternative, your post seemed biased against Clay's view (Correct me if I am wrong about that.) An obviously biased question is as much a statement of opinion as it is a question.... Therefore, it seemed rhetorical, and to be an opinion that was the essence of the strawman arguments.

The fact is, the rendering of any object is a distortion. Clay is NOT reporting facts. He is giving an opinion based on circumstances. He highlights aspects to make a point so that you will understand the opinion.

So the argument that his drawings are not technically accurate in every way means that the conclusions drawn from them and from the subject matter are not correct...... Is a classic strawman argument.

It's like you're trying to say if anything is wrong, if any facts are wrong or distorted, then a person cannot and should not draw accurate conclusions or ever be right. In this view something that is 99.9% right, could be argued to be wrong, even if the .1% did not affect the outcome.

I agree coming into Chattanooga from the west around the bend gives a terrible and wrong impression. There was a flap about that old building some time ago and I did think it was condemned and the owner had to do something about it. The clean up in that area needs to continue aggressively.

Bottom line - 1. You can smell it in Redbank, North Chattanooga and all over downtown. 2. It needs to be fixed
