Tennessee House Republican Leader Gerald McCormickNASHVILLE - House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick, R-Chattanooga, said today he will seek re-election to House District 26.
Calling it a "privilege" serve the people in the district and "proud" of their encouragement, McCormick pledged to continue focusing on jobs-related issues.
"Even at a time of economic downturn, our district has seen more jobs created and new capital invested than nearly any other in Tennessee," he said in a news release. "I will continue to do everything possible to ensure our area, and all of Tennessee, has the best possible climate for more job creation and entrepreneurial ventures."
He said in the past four years, District 26 has seen over $1.5 billion in new capital investment supporting the creation of over 10,000 new jobs. That includes Volkswagen and Amazon.com.
McCormick, first elected to represent the district in 2004, was elected majority leader in late fall of 2010 by Republican House members after they took complete control of the chamber for the first time since Reconstruction.
As majority leader, McCormick handles the legislative package for Republican Gov. Bill Haslam.
McCormick's Republican-leaning district changed during legislative redistricting this year, taking in new precincts in Hixson, Riverview, Stuart Heights and North Chattanooga.
