The Chattanooga Christian soccer Chargers were forced to make some adjustments after encountering a look they hadn't seen from Baylor.

Of course, it's a little bit easier to make those adjustments with the lead.

The Chargers scored an early goal and received a solid performance from their defense and goalkeeper Trae Terry on their way to a 1-0 victory Tuesday at CCS.

Terry was back on the field after taking a couple of seasons off to play football for the Chargers. His emergence allowed last season's goalkeeper, junior Cameron Anderson, to play more out in the field, marking Baylor's Jaakko Nurminen for much of the match.

The Red Raiders (4-1-2) run a 4-5-1 attack, and the one-forward look caused the Chargers (5-1-1) to adapt. They also had to adjust to the strong leg of Baylor keeper Henrique Ribeiro, who often booted punts deep into the attacking third of the field.

"I thought we were ready for it," CCS coach Shawn Brower said. "We handled it well, though. They pushed hard in the second half. We had a lot of energy and the backs battled well when they tried to get us on our heels."

Michael Powell scored the goal, knocking in a shot in the box in the first five minutes of the match. Baylor had some moments but suffered with the loss of four starters, three of whom were forwards.

"You have to give CCS credit; they defended better today than they did against Calhoun [last Friday]," Baylor coach Curtis Blair said. "We had some chances, but we were a little flat in the beginning. We had to put some different people in some different spots and had to adjust.

"We just weren't focused or prepared. They scored a goal in the first five minutes, and we have to have a better way of coming out ready to play."
