• Previous Experience: Walker County administrative assistant 1973-1983; county administrator 1983-1996; zoning administrator for Chickamauga 1998-2000.
Walker County sole Commissioner Bebe Heiskell announced Thursday that she will seek re-election.
Heiskell, who has served for more than 11 years, is seeking her fourth four-year term.
“Walker is currently one of the most successful county governments in the state with an extremely low unemployment rate ... a credit rating of AA-, and leadership in environmental and historical conservation,” Heiskell said in a news statement. “I want to continue my role as a leader for the county by supporting further job creation and economic growth, upgrading our roads and water lines, and continue working to position Walker County as an amazing tourist destination.”
Heiskell held a campaign kickoff event at 5 p.m. Thursday at Fieldstone Farms’ commercial center in Rock Spring, Ga.
“Bebe has proven that she knows and understands what it means to be a leader,” Walker resident Ben Napier said. “Walker wouldn’t be what it is today without her success and creativity.”
Paul Shaw, a retired LaFayette family physician, is challenging Heiskell for the seat.
