Dalton police are looking for two men who broke into an office at the Big Lots store on Walnut Avenue and got away with more than $9,000.

The incident happened April about 2:30 p.m., said police spokesman Bruce Frazier. A manager in the store reported hearing a strange noise near the storeroom and, when she checked on it, she saw two men standing just inside the room.

The men asked her where the bathroom was, and she told them. They walked in the direction of the bathroom and she went back to what she was doing, Frazier said.

About 90 minutes later, she went back to the office and noticed that the safe had been disturbed and money was missing.

Surveillance video shows one of the men using a prying tool to force the office door open, Frazier said. The man then can be seen opening the safe, taking money out of cash register tills inside and stuffing it into his pockets.

Investigators said he left with between $9,000 and $10,000 cash.

The suspects were described as black males, well dressed, both in their 30s or early 40s. Both had shaved bald heads and both spoke with accents.

One suspect was wearing black jeans and a black T-shirt while the other was wearing a pair of blue jeans with a pattern on the back pockets and a long-sleeved white shirt.

Anyone with information on the identity of these men is asked to contact Detective Ricky Long at 706-278-9085, ext. 168.
