David Gann new coach for North Murray High School

Ringgold offensive coordinator David Gann was approved Thursday night by the Murray County Board of Education as the new head football coach at North Murray High School in Chatsworth. Gann succeeds Larry Cornelius, who was 1-19 in two years of varsity play for the three-year-old school.

Gann, who was a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee under Phillip Fulmer, has coached at Northwest Whitfield, Southeast Whitfield and for the past six seasons under Robert Akins at Ringgold. He will leave Ringgold immediately and begin organizing his staff before the Mountaineers begin spring practice in three weeks.

"I'm very excited to be taking over such a young program, and I want to get back the tradition of football that county has had over the years," he said. "Next year will be the school's first real senior class, so it's a great situation, and they've got some very good players returning."

Renshaw to Cleveland

Dyer County head coach Adam Renshaw is leaving that position and heading to Cleveland to join new Blue Raiders coach Ron Crawford's staff as offensive coordinator.

Renshaw was hired at Dyer County in 2003 and had a 43-55 record that included five playoff appearances (2004, '07, '08, '10 and '11).

"I wasn't looking to leave," Renshaw told the Nashville Examiner. "I love Dyer County, the community was great to me and my family and I have great memories here, but going to Cleveland is a great opportunity to do something special."

"I'm a West Tennessee boy. Cleveland is a big-time program and I'm at the point in my career that I want to learn from the best, and Ron Crawford is one of the best."

Renshaw has history with the spread offense but said he wasn't sure what type of offense the Raiders would be running.

Crawford spent 10 seasons at Brentwood High and won the Class 5A state championship in 2002. He was 94-32 there before being hired at Cleveland in January.
