Baylor's Kaitie Sims has accepted a softball scholarship offer and plans to sign soon with Carson-Newman College.
"I just love how it has a small-school feel around the campus," Sims said. "I knew I didn't want to go to a big school. The community has a lot of great people."
Sims is batting .545 in limited plate appearances for the Lady Red Raiders, but the NCAA Division II program is particularly interested in her pitching prowess. She has a 9-2 pitching record with a 1.42 earned run average this season. She's allowed 42 hits in 54 1/3 innings while striking out 41.
"She's throwing the ball very well," Baylor coach Kelli Smith said. "She's always been a very hard worker. I think she's very determined to have a good year as a senior. Katie has always had the goal of playing at the next level and deserves the opportunity. With that in mind, she's worked toward that goal and I'm very proud of her."
