Baylor senior Anderson Scarpa recently made the decision to continue his tennis career at Mercer University.
The two-time Best of Preps honoree was a Division II-AA state quarterfinalist the past two seasons and was named to the all-tournament team at this year's Decoturf National Championships in Louisville, Ky. He's 6-1 this season.
He was also considering College of Charleston, Wingate, Lander and Virginia Wesleyan.
"It was just naturally a good fit for me," he said. "The school, the team and the academics are all top-notch, and they gave me a good offer on my visit."
Scarpa said that although the Red Raiders are only 4-3 so far, they still envision their first state championship since 1997. They've had consecutive runner-up finishes to Montgomery Bell Academy and recently fell 4-3 to the Big Red.
"We definitely want to avenge those losses," Scarpa said. "Coming up short the past two years has made us more focused and a lot more motivated. I think this could be our best team yet, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season."
