Lee University got a tying run in the eighth inning and the winning score in the 12th in edging Auburn-Montgomery 5-4 in a matchup of NAIA-ranked Southern States Athletic Conference baseball teams Friday night at Olympic Field in Cleveland.

The Flames one-upped Covenant's Scots in extra innings they forced, but the Scots outdid them with a six-run ninth on the way to an 11-inning 12-9 NCAA Division III loss to Emory on Lookout Mountain.

Nationally No. 2 Lee used five one-run at-bats to overcome No. 16 AUM's two two-run innings. Brady Renner, Roberto Reyes and Jorge Saez each doubled, singled and batted in a run for Lee (41-7-1, 22-3), and James Fowlkes was 1-for-1 with a run scored in batting for Saez.

Kris Hall pitched 9 2/3 innings for Lee, giving up six hits and three earned runs, and Jose Samayoa (6-0) allowed one hit in the last 2 1/3 innings.

Hunter Cross was 2-for-5 with two RBIs for AUM (30-19, 17-8).

James Rollins was 4-for-6 with two doubles for Covenant (15-14), giving him nine hits in the last two games, and he and his brother Chris (2-for-4) each scored twice. David Lockwood was 3-for-6 and matched K.C. Simons with three RBIs and Kurt Wiles was 2-for-3 in defeat. Sterling Witt's homer after a James Rollins double began the Scots' ninth, and Simons and Lockwood added two-run hits.

Brett Lake, Brandon Lannon, Jared Welch and Josh Bokor each was 3-for-6 for Emory (20-9), which hosts Covenant today, and the first three of those and Daniel Iturrey combined to score 10 runs. Iturrey was 2-for-2 with four walks.

• Tennessee Wesleyan 4-9, Bryan 1-1: At Athens, the NAIA's eighth-ranked Bulldogs swept the second-place Lions in Appalachian Athletic Conference play, lifting TWC to 33-9 overall and 16-1 in the league. The teams play today at 4 p.m. at the Lookouts' AT&T Field.

Josh Culler pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the first game, when Brackton Smith was 2-for-3 and scored a run and Taylor Oldham was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs. Jake Stone was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and homered along with Drew Levi in the second game, and Jeremy Fitzgerald and Ben Crocker combined on another two-hitter, totaling nine strikeouts. Josh Harris and Doug Stroup had the day's RBIs for Bryan (32-15, 11-6).

• Walters State 13, Cleveland State 7: At Cleveland, the host Cougars had 19 hits compared to 10 for the NJCAA's ninth-ranked Senators but fell to 23-16, 7-12 in the TCCAA. Colin Sullivan and Randall Coley each was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Chase Edwards was 3-for-6 and matched Sullivan with two runs scored for Cleveland State, while Derek Shugart, Devin Fish, Damo DeMatteo and DeAndre Allen had two hits each.
