A Hamilton County attorney has been censured by the state, authorities say.
John McConnell Wolfe, Jr., received a censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court on April 13, according to a news release. A censure doesn’t affect the lawyer’s ability to practice, the release said.
The censure stems from a case in which Wolfe represented a client in a personal injury action against a Veterans' Administration Hospital.
After his client’s claim was denied, Wolfe failed to mail the federal notice of claim and file a lawsuit within the deadline, the release said, and the lawsuit was dismissed because of that.
Wolfe also did not tell his client that the notice of claim was denied and that the lawsuit was dismissed and he did not return phone messages or attend appointments with his client, the release said.
