Marion County authorities are seeking a suspect in a stabbing attack Friday afternoon in which the man posed as a Jehovah's Witness, detectives say.

Authorities are looking for a dark-haired man with a dark complexion, about 5 feet 8, weighing about 200 pounds with a "scruffy" beard, according to Marion County Sheriff's Office Chief Detective Gene Hargis. The man is said to have "bad teeth" and was last seen wearing a dark shirt, khaki pants and a red baseball cap, he said.

At a home about four miles north of Powells Crossroads, the man approached the victim as a Jehovah's Witness, Hargis said.

The victim, a 34-year-old woman who was at a home of an acquaintance off Alvin York Highway, was stabbed in the abdomen, groin, chest and face about 2 p.m. CDT Friday. The victim was able to phone for help after the man fled on foot, Hargis said.

She is still being treated at Erlanger, he said.

Anyone with any information about the suspect should call Hargis or Detective Beth Schindel at 423-942-2525.
