U.S. troops in Afghanistan — till?

Do you remember when American troops first entered Afghanistan?

Most people surely don’t.

Many people do not seem to realize we still are there.

But American casualties still are occurring.

U.S. forces first entered Afghanistan on Oct. 7, 2001.

Why? Most people don’t even remember.

We moved our troops into Afghanistan because of the attack by terrorists on the World Trade Center in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.

The purpose was to hunt down Osama bin Laden, who was blamed for the attack on New York.

But the United States, the American people, the soldiers and airmen — we as a nation — still are engaged, most unfortunately, in Afghanistan.

No end is in sight.

In fact, United States military forces reportedly now are preparing a new offensive in Afghanistan — a last major American offensive in Afghanistan.

Who knows when Americans finally be will be out — and what then?

The American military and security apparatus is the most wasteful use of US taxpayer money.

And there is no end in sight.

And hey, you know where they found Osama? Pakistan. You know who was in Office when he was found? Obama.

Great job George W. Bush. What, you think the guy who sent them there doesn't matter any more?

More returned US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan die from suicide each year than the total that died in both wars. 6500 vets a year kill themselves because we ruined their lives in useless criminal wars.

Whatever your political persuasion, have the courage to speak out when we are wrong. That is what freedom is all about.

Wrong? No. Not in Afghanistan. What is wrong is to still be there. Why didn't the pullout start the day the death of Bin Laden was announced? I don't care if Afghanistan implodes the next week. They were imploded before we came and nothing will ever fix them. If we are attacked from there again we can bounce the rubble again but there is no reason to stand around waiting for something bad to happen. My vote for President Obama was based solely on ending the wars and I am feeling kind of duped at the moment.

There can be no more proximate cause for 9/11 than the long history of the US militaristic foreign policy and meddling in the affairs of other countries. Bin Laden's twisted logic and course of action was actually quite popular among most of the Middle East because he was attempting to respond to the long term abuse of power by the USA.
