EAR TO THE GROUND

THE CHATTANOOGA Breakfast Rotary Club presents its second "I Smell Smoke" fundraiser May 25-26, said spokeswoman Laurie Shipley.

Because last year's event was so successful, club members will smoke additional Boston butts this year, Shipley said.

Cooking will take place in the parking lot of Rivermont Presbyterian Church on Hixson Pike overnight May 25 with distribution May 26 between 8 and 10:30 a.m., she said.

"The smoked butts are $30 each. Orders are required and must be turned in no later than May 11. The order form is available online at www.rotaryofchattanoogabreakfast.com. A hard copy of the form can be downloaded and mailed to Chattanooga Breakfast Rotary Club, P.O. Box 4065, Chattanooga 37405. Please write "Attention: I Smell Smoke" on the envelope.

Credit card orders are accepted via the website with an added $1 fee.

"All proceeds benefit the club's local project fund that supports four neighborhood public elementary schools," Shipley said. For information, contact Phil Fleenor at pfleenor@duncanhatcher.com or 443-7110.

TOASTS

CONGRATULATIONS to local artists Leslie Dulin, Helen Brooks and Helen Burton, members of In-Town Gallery, whose art will be included in the prestigious Tennessee Watercolor Society 33rd Exhibition May 19 to June 20 in Memphis.

According to Burton, internationally renowned juror Gerald Brommer selected two paintings entered from each of these artists. Additionally, Dulin's paintings, "Patina" and "Root Entanglement," were chosen for the Tennessee Watercolor Society Traveling Show that visits four venues across the state for six months, ending at the Knoxville Museum of Art from Nov. 2 to Jan. 6, Burton said.

"The purpose of the Tennessee Watercolor Society is to educate the public about the beauty of watercolor as a permanent painting medium through displays, workshops and other educational opportunities throughout Tennessee," Burton said.

Burton also was honored recently by Southern Watercolor.

"My 'Seamen of the Seine' painting, included in the National Watercolor show last October, was chosen as one of 90 paintings out of 425 by juror Frederick Graff for their 35th exhibition from June 10 to July 7."
