Marion County authorities have released a composite sketch of the man they say attacked a woman at a home north of Powells Crossroads.

Chief Detective Gene Hargis said there are no new leads in the case, but investigators hope the artist’s rendering helps lead to an arrest.

The victim, a 34-year-old woman who was at a home of an acquaintance off Alvin York Highway, was stabbed in her abdomen, groin area, chest and face around 2 p.m. CDT on April 13. She was able to phone for help after the man fled on foot, authorities said.

When she was airlifted to Erlanger hospital, the knife was still embedded in her body “all the way to the handle,” Hargis said.

The suspect in the attack was a man claiming he was a Jehovah’s Witness, detectives say.

The suspect is described as a dark-haired man with a dark complexion, about 5 feet 8, weighing about 200 pounds, according to Hargis. The man is said to have “bad teeth” and was last seen wearing a dark shirt, khaki pants and a red baseball cap.

The sketch of him was drawn by an artist with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Hargis said.

Anyone with any information about the suspect in the case should call Marion County detectives Gene Hargis or Beth Schindel at 423-942-2525.
