Bryan College moved into a tie for second place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball standings by finishing a three-game sweep of Point University with an 11-4 win Saturday.

The Lions are 35-16 overall and 14-7 in the AAC with one league series remaining. They are tied with Union College behind nationally sixth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan (36-11, 19-2), which won 16-1 Saturday at Montreat after losing 4-3 and winning 12-2 in Friday's doubleheader at the North Carolina school.

After homering and driving in four runs in Friday's late second game, Bryan's Shane Clawson was 3-for-4 with two homers, five RBIs and four runs Saturday, and leadoff man Kevin Layne was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Billy Veal had two hits and two runs, Doug Stroup completed a 7-for-9 series with two doubles, and Josh Harris and Steven Brown each had two RBIs.

• Lee 3, Belhaven 2: At Jackson, Miss., the NAIA's No. 3-ranked team followed two close Southern States Athletic Conference wins Friday with an even closer one Saturday, as it went 10 innings. Edmanuel Rivera led off the 10th with a triple and scored on a wild pitch, and Andy Hillis notched his sixth save of the season.

Mike Moore was 4-for-4 with an RBI, Corey Davis was 2-for-4 and scored twice and Jorge Saez tripled and singled for the Flames (46-8-1, 26-4), who will be seeded second for the SSAC tournament. Five Lee pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

• Covenant 6-10, Tennessee Temple 4-8: On Lookout Mountain, David Lockwood went 4-for-7 with three runs and an RBI as the Scots rose to 19-17. K.C. Simons was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the first game, and Chris Rollins was 3-for-4 with three runs and Jonathan Carter had three RBIs in game two.

Taylor Wilson was 5-for-8 in the doubleheader for Temple (12-32-1). Jon Clayton was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs in game one; Brandon Davis was 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs in game two, when Chris Altman, Dustin Stowers and Nico McElrath each was 2-for-4.

• Rhodes 10-13, Sewanee 5-3: At Memphis, the Lynx swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader and will host another game today. Alan Komorowski tripled and doubled, Jack Whaley also had two hits and Scott Ward batted in three runs for Sewanee in game one. The Tigers (14-21, 3-11) had only four hits in the second game.

• Columbia State 14-5, Chattanooga State 5-4: At Columbia, Tenn., the NJCAA Division I fifth-ranked Chargers swept Friday's TCCAA doubleheader, scoring 10 runs in the second inning of game one.

Lady Vols rally

Eighth-ranked Tennessee rallied to win 4-2 in Southeastern Conference softball Saturday at South Carolina.

Raven Chavanne and Madison Shipman each drove in two runs for the Lady Vols, who were outhit 9-5 and trailed 2-0 after five innings. Chattanoogan Tory Lewis was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored for UT (39-9, 18-6).

• Lee 5-13, Truett-McConnell 3-0: At Cleveland, Ga., leadoff batter Dominique Hannah was 5-for-8 with three runs scored in the SSAC sweep for the NAIA's 11th-ranked Lady Flames, and Ana Coscorrosa was 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBIs and three runs scored in game two, as Jessa Watts drove in three runs and combined with Katie Deems to pitch the shutout.

Tabitha Farrow was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Lee (46-8, 23-4) in the first game, when Coscorrosa, Dezirae Parsons and Nicole Rodriguez each was 2-for-4. Charlie Wooden was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs in the rematch, while Savanna Bell was 2-for-3 and scored twice and Kelsey Barnes was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

• Birmingham-Southern 10-14, Sewanee 0-0: At Sewanee, Carly Warfield was 2-for-3 in the first game as the main highlight for the host Tigers (5-20, 0-14) in the SCAC doubleheader.

• Huntingdon 5, Covenant 3: At Covenant, the Lady Scots lost a Great South makeup game despite Lauren Johns' two hits and two RBIs and two hits and a run apiece for Beth Harris and Christine Core. Harris also had an RBI. Huntingdon is 25-11, 15-1; Covenant is 20-16, 8-8.

Lady Eagles out

At Greeneville, Tenn., Carson-Newman beat Tusculum 9-1 in the South Atlantic Conference softball tournament Saturday but then was eliminated with a 2-0 loss to Anderson in which the Lady Eagles (34-22) got only three hits.

Against Tusculum (32-25), former Ooltewah High School players Bri Shoemake, Sara Kelley and Jessica Morgan went 7-for-10 with four doubles. Shoemake was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Kelley had two RBIs and Morgan scored twice.
