Emilio Christopher Canales, 27, is charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault in the shooting deaths of his father and brother and wounding of his mother in Dalton.

A 27-year-old Dalton man has been charged with murder in connection with the deaths of his father and brother, police say.

Emilio Christopher Canales , 27, is in custody after a domestic dispute earlier this morning, said Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier. He is charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault., Frazier said.

Police found his father, Emilio Canales, Sr., 50, and his brother, Emilio Francisco Canales, 31, dead from gunshot wounds inside a home at 1011 Dude St., Frazier said.

Emilio Christopher Canales’ mother also was shot and is critical condition at Hamilton Medical Center at Hamilton Medical Center, but she isexpected to recover, Frazier said.

About 9:30 a.m. today, a wounded Deborah J. Canales, 50, ran from her home on Dude Street to a nearby house, where her neighbors took care of her until medical personnel arrived. Canales told officers that her son, Emilio Christopher Canales, shot her and fled the scene.

Police got a description of his vehicle and captured him without incident a short time later, Frazier said.

The incident is still being investigated, but it’s not believed there are any additional suspects at large, Frazier said.

In August 2011, Emilio Christopher Canales was arrested on two counts of probation violation, records show — one from a felony conviction of aggravated assault and another on a misdemeanor conviction of giving false information.

Dalton authorities said they do not have any information on those crimes at this time.
