Walker County sole commissioner challenger Paul Shaw is asking for a recount in the race where he lost by 211 votes.
Shaw, who ran against longtime Commissioner Bebe Heiskell, led the race for most of Tuesday night. But Heiskell squeezed by with 51 percent of the votes by the end of the night.
Shaw is sending a petition to the county to ask for a recount and says the Walker County Board of Elections has agreed to consider his request.
Election officials say they have spoken on the phone to people about a recount, but haven’t received anything officially in writing and couldn’t comment until then.
Heiskell didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.
