Chattanooga firefighters busy with checking downed lines, two fires

The Chattanooga Fire Department reported it was kept busy last night answering calls on downed power lines and responding to two fires.

Fire Chief Randall Parker said early this morning firefighters went to 26 Minnekahda Place to fight a fire that began with an outside grill and spread to the exterior wall of the house.

Parker said damages totaled up to $20,000.

Also early this morning, the Rustic Village Apartment complex at 510 Central Drive experienced a fire at the back of building 400.

One apartment had smoke damage and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Parker said in a release.

He also said that a newspaper delivery person making early morning deliveries had alerted some of residents to evacuate as firefighters were being sent to the scene.

Damage was estimated at $15,000, Parker said.
