The Mocs will begin their 2012-13 season against a college basketball behemoth.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga released its men's basketball schedule for the 2012-13 season on Wednesday.

Following a Blue-Gold scrimmage on Nov. 6 and a game against Tennessee Temple on Nov. 12, the Mocs will open their season in one of the most historical basketball cauldrons in the country - Phog Allen Fieldhouse.

UTC will play at Kansas, the NCAA Tournament runner-up, on Nov. 15 as part of the CBE Classic which will give UTC home games against Southeast Missouri, Troy and Louisiana Tech.

"The commissioner said we all needed more home non-conference D-1 games, and to do that, you're going to have to be a little creative," UTC coach John Shulman said. "We have seven non-conference D-1 games and 18 total home games. Coach [Brent] Jolly gets a lot of credit for thinking outside of the box to get this schedule."

The Mocs will play one Southern Conference game before the calendar flips to 2013 -- on Dec. 1 against Davidson. They will also play at Louisiana State on Dec. 11.

The Dr Pepper Classic will be held Dec. 28-29 and will feature four Division I teams with Austin Peay, Utah Valley State and High Point joining UTC.

The Mocs' SoCon schedule begins in earnest after a Jan. 2 trip to Georgia Tech. From there on, the Mocs will play a typical SoCon schedule with partner trips to Charleston, North Carolina and South Carolina.

"Our non-conference schedule, with games at Kansas and LSU, will be a lot of fun," Shulman said. "It's been a very productive summer. We're trying to redeem ourselves from a poor year with a lot of kids who had nothing to do with that year."
