First-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, a Republican from Ooltewah, won the 3rd District Republican primary with close to 40 percent of the votes, according to Associated Press figures.
Fleischmann got 29,943 votes and dairy executive Scottie Mayfield followed with 23,772 votes. Westom Wamp, son of former 3rd District Rep. Zach Wamp, finshed the race with 21,992 votes.
Businessman Ron Bhalla has 923 votes.
The winner will take on Mary M. Headrick, who won the Democratic primary with 14,780 votes, while Bill Taylor got 7,339 votes.
In 2010, Fleischmann defeated former state GOP chairwoman Robin Smith.
All vote totals, which include federally mandated provisional ballots, are unofficial until certified by the Tennessee Division of Elections.
