Chattanooga police officers were involved in a standoff with an armed man on Highway 153 on Saturday. The man fled police in Fort Oglethorpe and drove up Highway 153 but struck another vehicle and crashed. The armed driver surrendered about noon and is now in the Hamilton County Jail.

Chattanooga police said Crowe eluded authorities in Fort Oglethorpe and drove into Tennessee. He crashed into another vehicle on Highway 153, sending two people in another vehicle to a hospital with minor injuries.

Chattanooga police have identified the man who was taken into custody on Highway 153 after a pursuit Saturday morning as Aaron Chad Crowe, 30, of 7537 Walnut Hill Drive in Harrison.

The pursuit started after Fort Oglethorpe police were called to an apartment complex at 8:42 a.m. for reports of a suspect transporting drugs, said Chattanooga police Master Patrol Officer Nathan Hartwig.

When authorities tried to stop Crowe, he flashed a gun and sped away, Hartwig said.

He said Crowe eluded authorities in Fort Oglethorpe and drove into Tennessee. After a 16-minute chase, he crashed into another vehicle on Highway 153 near Lee Highway, sending two people in another vehicle to a hospital with minor injuries.

Crowe's SUV went off the road. For a few hours he was in a standoff with police officers until police took him into custody with guns raised at 12:01 p.m., Hartwig said.

Crowe, who was alone in the SUV, suffered minor injuries and asked to be taken to a hospital, Hartwig said.

Crowe had open warrants in unrelated cases in Hamilton County for felony theft, assault and improper use of 911. He is in custody at the Hamilton County Jail, records show.

Court records in Hamilton County show he has been arrested 42 times including charges of carjacking, forgery and drug possession.

Crowe was arrested in July on charges of gambling and possession of gambling device or record. He received a suspended sentence of 30 days and was placed on probation.
