East Ridge police responded to reports that a child fell from a second-story balcony Sunday night.
Fire rescue and police personnel responded to the Superior Creek Lodge at 1410 North Mack Smith Road at about 8:30 p.m., according to a news release.
First responders found a mother holding a two-year-old boy on the ground below the balcony. The toddler was alert and crying and was taken to Children’s Hospital by Angel EMS, according to East Ridge police.
The boy’s mother told police that she was unsure how the child fell, because it happened quickly. Officers were told a piece of the balcony railing had been missing for several weeks before the incident.
East Ridge Codes Department personnel inspected the railing to ensure proper repairs are made.
